A delegation from Gordon Academic College of Education participated in the second and final workshop of the Climate Literacy and Teacher Education Project, hosted by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, in collaboration with researchers from the University of Prishtina, Kosovo. The project is supported by the Israeli Ministry of Regional Cooperation and follows the successful first workshop held at Gordon Academic College in February 2026.
Representing Gordon Academic College were Dr. Sophie Shauli, Dr. Stan Sofer, Dr. Yocheved Yurkovski, and Dr. Anat Abramovich.
Throughout the workshop, participants discussed the preliminary findings of a comparative research study examining climate literacy among pre-service teachers in Israel, Greece, and Kosovo. The partners agreed on the next stages of the joint research methodology, with the aim of producing high-quality scientific publications, while also developing new initiatives for academic cooperation in teacher education, education for sustainability, and STEM education.
The programme also included professional visits to leading educational and research institutions, including the American Farm School, the Forest Management and Remote Sensing Laboratory, the Regional STEM Center of Thessaloniki, and several field sites showcasing the environmental impacts of climate change and innovative sustainability practices.
One of the workshop's major achievements was the preparation and submission of a joint abstract to the international conference "Information for Action: Transforming Higher Education for Climate Resilience," to be held at the University of Manchester in October 2026. Shortly after the workshop concluded, the consortium received confirmation that the abstract had been accepted for presentation, marking another significant milestone in the successful collaboration between the three partner countries.
The project continues to strengthen academic cooperation between Israel, Greece, and Kosovo while advancing research, innovation, and teacher education in the field of climate literacy.
